HO - safe young treat contracture?

Hello smile I’m seeing a 14 year old girl who is a couple of years post elbow injury resulting in HO. She has had surgery to remove the HO but it didn’t improve the ROM much. Apparently there is a small recurrence of HO. Is it safe to do InterX on area of HO do you think? I am hoping to use it on the tight biceps and fascia volar upper arm. She doesn’t have pain. Thank you!

Hi Rosie, I work with many patients that are dealing with HO from trauma. At our facility we usually wait for the growth to stop and then surgically incise and tx with radiation to try and prevent regrowth. I would recommend caution on HO because it is an overactive growth process and I tend to keep away from applying to such areas. Would not want to encourage growth in this area. Same applies to any type of neoplasms. Hope this helps.
